Supporting Families During a Teacher's Strike
At Camp Chestermere, we believe every child deserves the stability, learning, and friendships that a regular school day provides. While we sincerely hope a strike does not occur—or that it is short-lived—we are prepared to support families if it does. Our School Year Camps will provide safe, fun, and caring childcare, ensuring kids can keep growing, connecting, and thriving.

FAQs
You have questions? We have answers. Please read through the FAQs listed below for more information or send us an email at: campcoordinator@

1
Q: Can I sign my child up for individual days or part of the week?
A: We’re only able to offer full-week registration for our school year camps.
Because our programs are built around consistent groups, daily sign-ups aren’t possible. This helps us:
-
Ensure the same leader team is with your child all week, building relationships and trust.
-
Plan staffing, activities, and supplies accurately for everyone.
-
Maintain smooth routines for the kids and avoid mid-week disruptions.
We understand that a full week may not work for every family, but this approach helps us provide the best experience for the kids and keep our programs running smoothly.
2
Q: What activities will my child do during the week?
A: Our School Year Camp offers an adapted version of the fun and engaging experiences from our summer daycamps. Each day, campers will start by connecting with their group, then enjoy a campfire time featuring silly camp songs, “Minute to Win It” challenges, and a short teaching moment. After snack time, they’ll take part in two camp activities—weather permitting—including options like archery, wall climbing, kayaking, and crafts.
The afternoon includes lunch, a wide game, a restful siesta with a snack, and closing time with their groups to wind down before pick-up.
We focus on creating a balanced, enjoyable day that combines active play, creativity, and community connection.
3
Q: Is lunch or snacks provided?
A: To help ease the stress of a teacher strike on families, we provide two snacks and lunch every day during School Year Camp, so you don’t have to worry about packing meals.
4
Q: Is this still a religious camp experience?
A: Our School Year Camp includes a faith component. During the morning campfire, we share short teachings that highlight Christian values like love, joy, friendship, and forgiveness, often using passages from the Bible. We also say grace before meals.
That said, we warmly welcome campers of all religious backgrounds and beliefs. Our goal is to create a respectful, inclusive environment where every child feels valued and comfortable.
5
Q: Why is the cost what it is?
A: Each week of School Year Camp is $350. This fee covers our operating costs (utilities, staff, food, cleaning and supplies). It also allows us to provide the right staff/child ratio and ensure our staff are trained to provide a safe and fun experience. During the school year weeks, campers will enjoy two fun activities each day, plus lunch and two snacks.
6
Q: I see there’s a deposit — how does the rest of the payment work?
A: The cost per School Year Camp week/session is $350.
When you register, a $100 deposit per session is required.
-
If the strike is called families will receive an email from Camp Chestermere giving them 24 hours to pay the remaining $250 to secure their child’s spot for the first week of School Year Camps.
-
If we do not receive full payment, your deposit will be returned (less credit card fee) and your child's spot will be given to the next person on the waitlist.
-
Please note that the 24-hour payment window for Week 1 is firm so that we can prepare staffing and resources quickly.
-
-
If you have pre-registered for any additional weeks, the remaining balance of $250 will be due by the Wednesday before the camp session begins.
7
Q: What happens if teachers go back to work before or during the week?
A: If teachers return to work before the camp week begins, you’ll receive a full refund (less credit card fee). If they return mid-week, we’ll refund you for the unused days*. For example, if your child attends School Year Camp on Monday and Tuesday, and school resumes on Wednesday, you’ll receive 3/5 of your payment back.
*Refunds for unused days only applies to the end of the teacher strike.
8
Q: Can you accommodate special needs or medical requirements?
A: While we strive to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all campers, our School Year Camps are designed to offer typical camp programming and do not have the capacity for specialized one-on-one care. Our staff, primarily high school students, are trained to support general camper needs but are not equipped to provide individualized care for children with special needs beyond what a typical classroom or camp program offers. If your child requires additional support, please contact us to discuss whether our program is the right fit.
9
Q: Who are your staff? Are they trained and screened?
A: Our staff are carefully screened and trained following the same standards as our summer camp programs. We ensure every team member is prepared to provide a safe, fun, and supportive environment for all campers.
10
Q: What should my child bring each day?
A: Detailed information about what to bring will be sent to all registered families before camp starts, so you’ll know exactly how to prepare your child for a great week.
11
Q: Do you offer financial assistance or subsidies?
A: Unfortunately, we are unable to offer financial assistance or subsidies for our School Year Camps.
