May/June 2019 Update
Good afternoon everyone,
It has been an incredible number of weeks here at Camp Chestermere. Here's a update on what's been happening out at Camp C:
Our Annual Fundraiser, which took place on Tuesday, May 14th, was the launch of our new #LEGOCampC campaign. This new and exciting campaign stands for Let Everyone Grow Our Camp Chestermere.
This years’ #LEGOCampC Fundraiser targeted three major projects, including an overhaul of our furnace and air conditioning systems in the amount of $122,000.00, the purchase of a new floor scrubber for $6,000.00, and $20,000.00 toward the renovation costs of one our staff housing buildings, the Hex. Thanks to an anonymous donor, a floor scrubber has been purchased and donated to camp. Of our $148,000.00 target, we’ve managed to raise $27,771.00 toward the remaining projects.
We invite you to participate in this initiative by donating. Donation methods include cheque, cash, debit, credit, and payments made online. Monthly donations can be arranged through contacting our office or utilizing our Donate Your Change Campaign. Any donation over $20.00 is eligible for a tax receipt.
Every time a donation is made, a lego piece is added to our Lodge wall. These lego pieces are customizable and can be written on including your name, someone else’s name, a bible verse, a prayer, etc. We hope to see your lego piece added to our growing collection!
Saturday, June 8th was our annual Fun-4-Fun event, where adults can be kids, so kids can be kids. We had six teams participate and raise over $3,000.00 toward our Jar Jar’s Kids (financial assistance) campaign. If you would like to donate to help send a kid to camp, donation methods include cheque, cash, debit, credit, and payments made online. Monthly donations can be arranged through contacting our office or utilizing our Donate Your Change campaign. Any donation over $20.00 is eligible for a tax receipt.
We are excited to announce that we were successful in receiving an Operational Grant from Rocky View County in the amount of $30,832.93. This grant will be utilized to assist with our insurance and utilities costs.
A huge thank you to the Rocky View County board for the approval of this grant.
With summer camp season just around the corner, we are eager to get going! We looked at our registration numbers and are excited to announce that, in comparison to our 2018 season, we are well ahead of where we were this time last year. Please see below for the year-to-year comparison:

Overnight Camp: 637

Our theme for 2019 is Participate. We can’t wait to see all of our campers and staff alike Participating in camps this summer.
We are now hiring for our Seasonal Staff Team! If you know someone who is 16 years of age or older that is looking for some great work experience, we’d love to have them apply for our 2019 season. Availability can range from a week, to a month, to the whole summer. Staffing is always a need and your help to spread the word is appreciated.
Family Fun Fair
Our annual Family Fun Fair was an incredible event once again this year. Our prayers were answered when the smoke cleared on Friday night and the event was able to run without interruption. We ran activities, played a movie at the beach - complete with a wiener roast - and put on an awesome firework show. The following Saturday consisted of more activities, a farmers’ market, a car-boot sale, pony rides, a rabbit show, and a flash mob promotion of seniors’ week (our favourite moment was watching RCMP Officers dancing!). Overall, it was an incredible event that was covered by the Chestermere Anchor. Here is the link for the article. https://www.theanchor.ca/edition/
Camp Chestermere once again participated in Seniors Week. We hosted the kick-off lunch that had nearly 90 attendees. This kick-off included boat tours, outdoor activities, flower-pot painting, hand, foot and head massages, and more. Additionally, we hosted a dinner and social which had over 50 attendees. Seniors week is a remarkable event that we are proud to be a part of.
We have been incredibly busy with guest group bookings lately. Over the past six weeks, we have had at least one group on-site every day. On some days, we have even had multiple groups and/or we have a very quick turnaround between groups. The Year Round Staff and Seasonal Leadership team have been doing an amazing job hosting these groups. It is great to see our site being used, and fulfilling our mandate of being a gift to the community.
Tribute to Jeff
We wanted to pass on the sad news that on Monday, May 13th, a member of Camp Chestermere’s extended family, Jeff Nickel, passed away. Husband to Sherry Nickel (Curry), former Kitchen Manager of Camp Chestermere, father of Kaidon Nickel (Tardis) and Chloe Nickel (Oxygen), both former staff members, and father-in-law of current Office Administrator Natasha Karcz (Shut-Eye). It was a beautiful funeral with touching tributes from both Sherry and Kaidon. Please continue to keep the family in your prayers, especially on this Father’s Day Weekend.
