February 9, 2018 Weekly Update
Well, I hope everyone is staying safe and warm during this latest winter snap. Kitchen Lead Erik (Baloo) and Bookkeeper Heather (Bookie) stayed home yesterday as the roads were awful. I cancelled some appointments I had in Calgary because of the snow as well. Took me an hour to dig out Michelle and I's cars.... and that was after our snow removal company left. Yikes. And the stairwells outside the lodge.... WOW. But all are safe and and trying to stay warm. Glad it looks like it is supposed to warm up again over the weekend.
Prayer for Camp Chestermere #lovecampc
As you know, we are in the middle of our #lovecampc Prayer Campaign. This is where we invite people to take one day during the month of February to intentionally pray for Camp Chestermere. A huge thank you to those who have signed up already. Most of the days in February have someone who has committed to be intentional about praying for camp on that day. However, we do have a couple of days left. These include: February 13, 16, 23, 24, 27 and 28. A few people have signed up for multiple days. It would be great to round out the month with a few more people. Let me know if you would like to sign up for a day and we will get you on the list. The list is not made public unless we have your permission to do so. Here are a few of the items we have asked people to keep in mind throughout their prayer time:
Our Seasonal Leadership Team as they prepare to join us in May
Our Year Round Team for continued strength, energy, wisdom, and for their families
Growth and expansion in:
Our numbers for camps, rentals, events
Our actual facility. Land across the street
Our volunteers and helpers who come and support the work we do
That we would continually find ways to uniquely impact the people we interact with with the love of Jesus
Our theme. That we would be Undaunted in the face of adversity
Remember, we invite you to share your experience or what God has been saying to you throughout the day either via email, phone call or on our social media platforms. If you comment on social media then please use the hashtag #lovecampc. Thank you again. We appreciate your prayerful support.
Helping All Campers Succeed
This program is really starting to gain some traction and we are really excited about it. We have been meeting with a number of agencies and forming some new partnerships with people who have far more experience and expertise in this area than we do. Can't quite be public yet about these partnerships but we have had one organization step up and offer to do free training for our staff who will be heading up this program. Details on this will be announced soon but know that this program is really gaining momentum. Can't wait to see where this goes. If you know someone with a child who may need some extra care and attention when they go to camp, whether that need be diagnosed or not, then let them know about Camp Chestermere and have them contact us about this exciting program.
Camp Chestermere would like to express its deepest condolences to Holly Wood on the loss of her husband Brian. Brian Donald Wood, beloved husband of Holly, passed away peacefully at the age of 64 years surrounded by his family. Brian was involved in and participated in many organizations and communities throughout his life; Calgary Little League, Boy Scouts, Men’s Fastball, Mac’s Major Midget Hockey Tournament, Calgary Minor Hockey, APRH Community Association, Chestermere Community Association, Chestermere Fire Dept., Chestermere Whitecappers, Ducks Unlimited, Alberta 55 plus Big Country Senior Sports Society, Chestermere Seniors’ Week Committee, Lakeside Golf Club, Pickleball and community Santa Claus, just to name a few. Camp Chestermere has worked with the Wood family over the past couple of years on the Chestermere Seniors Week.
We are starting to pick up again for our rentals. The weather did affect us yesterday as we had a school move their booking to another date. Please continue to let people know that we are available for a number of things including church retreats, youth retreats, corporate lunches and/or meetings, weddings, birthday parties, sports teams and more. Lots of options. Rentals for us are a way for us to be a continued gift to the community. We have awesome facilities for people to use. If you know of people looking for a place to hold an event then please let them know about us. Remember for us, our attitude is "the answer is yes so ask the question and we will figure it out.
