Updates, Invitations and Exciting News from Camp Chestermere

Well, Grey Cup is just a few days away and the Calgary Stampeders were able to make it back for the second year in a row. I have to admit that both of my predictions for how the East and West Finals were going to go were completely wrong and the two teams I thought would lose are playing on Sunday. BUT, I am very, very, very glad that we changed the date of our Christmas Banquet because it was supposed to be this Sunday. I don't know about you but there is a couch and TV with my name on it and football to be watched.

Speaking of the Christmas Banquet, we need your help. Ticket sales are a little low right now and we would like to improve this. I will be sending another email about our Christmas Banquet later this afternoon but for now we would again like to invite you to our Annual Christmas Banquet on Sunday December 3, 2017. Tickets are just $20 or $10 if you were a staff member in 2017. Punch is at 5:30. Dinner at 6:00. This is not a fundraiser. This is a chance for you to come, connect, and celebrate with other people who love and care about Camp Chestermere and a chance for you to hear about the amazing things that are happening. We have some very exciting news that is all of 2 hours old. Last night I did a presentation for the Rocky View County Community Recreation Fund Capital Assistance Grant. We are very excited to announce that we have received a grant for just over $27 000. This grant is to help repair the Gabion Wall on the west side of the island, install a new Boat Launch, and do some major upgrades to the Brown Cabins. This is a matching grant and so now we need to raise the other $27 000. We will be doing this through our BEAR HUG Campaign and through a couple of other initiatives that we will be launching in the New Year. Watch for more info coming on this soon. But for now Camp Chestermere would like to say a HUGE thank you to Rocky View County and the Chestermere Conrich Recreation Board for the approval of the grant.

Speaking of Fundraising, Tuesday November 28, 2017 is Giving Tuesday!!! This is an opportunity for people to give to charities/non-profits after Black Friday & Cyber Monday. It's a pretty big event that spans across the US, UK, and Canada. We have set a very ambitious goal of raising $5000 for our Jar Jar's Kids Program. Watch for the promotion that will be happening all week on all of our social media platforms. This will be the last official fundraising initiative that we will run before Christmas. While $5000 seems ambitious, if everyone receiving this email gave just $30 on Tuesday we would shatter the $5000 mark. Ok, that's lots about money, grants and fundraising but there is just a lot of exciting stuff happening in that area. God is good all the time and all the time God is good. It's amazing how He invites us to participate in the work of the Kingdom and how there are so many ways for us to be involved.

In other news, we are headed into a bit of a slower season in terms of bookings right now which is good and bad. Good because our Year Round Team is a little tired right now and could use a bit of a breather. Bad because there are still bills to pay. Also, rentals and guest groups are an extension of our ministry and not just a way to pay bills. We love having people on site and working with our community. Relationships are our number one value and hosting people is a way to build relationships. Gets a little lonely around here when we don't have groups. But, this will give us a chance to get some work done that has been put off for a little while. Thank you to Kitchen Lead Suzanne (Honey) who has been doing an awesome job getting the fridge and freezer organized. Thank you to Kitchen Lead Erik (Baloo) who has been organizing the pantry and doing some deep cleaning in the kitchen and dish pit over the past few days. Thank you also to Erik for doing a great job in booking volunteers to help out with these projects. And Site Coordinator Vic (Poppa Smurf) has started to work on the flooring in the Blue Triplex which is the last Triplex to need the flooring done. So, yes, less bookings but still plenty of work to be done.

Speaking of volunteering, we would love for you to come and volunteer. If you have half a day, a couple hours or a full day and would like to come and help out there is plenty to be done. From cleaning, to organizing, to small construction projects or admin work, there is something for every age group and skill set. Like I've said before, we are a mighty team of 7 year round people but still only a team of 7. We've been blessed lately by 2017 Seasonal Leaders Alex (Crumpet) and Bennett (Wolf) who come once a week to help out. They've committed one day a week to help us out and it is making a HUGE difference. Thanks boys.
