Update: May 7th

I would like to start this weekly update by again acknowledging the devastation that has happened in Fort McMurray. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this tragedy. Camp Chestermere sends a thank you to all of the first responders and volunteers who are still fighting this blaze and for keeping people safe through this time. Camp Chestermere is still ready and prepared to take in any evacuees who may still be looking for temporary residence. I had the chance to attend the fundraiser that was held at the Chestermere Rec Centre on Saturday and it was great to see how many people and organizations donated items to the silent auction and how many people came out to support. Chestermere really knows how to come together to support each other and our province in times of tragedy. We saw it last year with the flooding in Chestermere and see it again with the Fort McMurray tragedy. Chestermere is a great city to be a part of.

On Sunday May 1 we were honoured to be the site that hosted the wedding of Darren and Christine. The weather was amazing and the set up that was done by Dan Vecino, the grooms father, was incredible. Check out the photos on all of our social media pages. Seriously, if you have an event coming up you should contact Dan about helping to decorate it. Just contact us and we will get you in touch with him. The man is crazy talented.

The Vecino family has a long history at Camp Chestermere as campers, staff and guest speakers and we were honoured to be able to host their wedding. Special thanks to former Program Assistant Sidney (Sully), Summer Staff Member Brad (Thumper), Site Coordinator Vic (Poppa Smurf), Food Services Manager Ruth (Momma Ruth), Assistant Food Services Manager Sherry (Curry), Kitchen Assistant Jordie (J-Baz), Vic's wife Cathy, for helping to make this day a huge success for the Vecino family.

On Monday May 2, our Seasonal Leaders officially joined us. There was a party the night before where the staff gathered and had pizza in the Chap. One of the unique things about our Seasonal Leaders this year is that a lot of them don't know each other and were meeting for the first time on Sunday night. Our Seasonal Leaders are in charge of the Summer Staff and are the ones who help to get everything prepped for the summer. We have another incredible team this year and I can tell you that the identity of this years Seasonal Leadership Team is work ethic. Wow this group works hard and does so many things without even being asked. The camp is once again in good hands this summer with this group of leaders. The Seasonal Leadership Team is:
