CABIN NAMES
Every one of our cabins have been either built or renovated by an organization, church, or family. We wanted to celebrate each one of these people by naming each cabin after them. The names of each cabin, along with a descriptor, and a link to their website can be found below...

"42 Crew" - Northwest Community Church's Cabin
This is the name of our teen guys group at Northwest.Northwest Community Church meets in the NW community of Edgemont and has a passion for children, youth and young adults. Our mission is “To be Christ in our Community and Bring our Community to Christ” in a practical expression of the love of God in the world around us.When we began sending kids to Camp Chestermere and realized they have a similar mission and vision with a heart for representing the love of Jesus in the way they build relationships, create experiences and develop leaders so that they are a gift to the community, it just made sense to work together! We were blessed to have a skilled carpenter take the lead on renovating Brown 1 and hope it will be a place where many guys come to know more of the God who made them, loves them and is for them – not against them!

"Lake View" - Lakeview Baptist Church's Cabin
A Baptist General Conference of Alberta church planted in 1966. Focussing on sending out missionaries and providing local opportunities for ministry led to Lakeview being one of the founding member churches of Camp Chestermere. Over the years church members have been involved in camp as staff, counsellors, campers, volunteers and board members. Lakeview has always done what it could to support the ministry of camp. In 2018, the Lakeview Summer Service Team, which included people of all ages, partnered with camp to renovate a cabin. Our prayer is that everyone who stays in this cabin will be blessed by the presence of God and know Jesus personally as saviour.

"The Rotary Cabin" - The Rotary Club's Cabin
Rotary began their relationship with the Camp many years ago and contribute every year to help support the great work that the Camp does. In 2019 we heard about the Cabin reno project and were honoured to participate by adopting a Cabin. Our club had a great time doing the renovation and put a lot of love and care into the project. Helping young people develop their potential is so important to Rotary, as it is to Camp Chestermere, so it was a natural fit for our club to support this very worthy project! We’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Camp Chestermere on their success of this project and for providing so many other great events for our community! Camp Chestermere truly is a gem to be highly valued and cared for!

"The Shack" - Lakeridge Community Church's Cabin
Since 2010 Lake Ridge Community Church has been in the community of Chestermere living out our four key values of Story, Community, Generosity and Worship. Our main goal has always been to help make Chestermere a better place to live. In the beginning of Lake Ridge, a small group of people gathered to listen and dream for how this church could contribute to the city. Over the years we have continued to do our best to listen, serve and partner with other incredible organizations doing great work in our city like Camp Chestermere. It was our honour to help update this cabin! And it was clear and evident as a small team of people spent time planning and renovating the cabin that the Camp is a safe place where Jesus is very present through the work of many dedicated people. The cabin we named the Shack because it is a favourite book of ours at Lake Ridge. The Shack is a place where the main character of the book goes with some hesitation to experiences a real authentic relationship with God. It’s a safe place where people are met where they are at, loved deeply, fully as their messy, vulnerable selves. It is our hope the The Shack cabin becomes a place to ask the big questions of faith and God, experience authentic community, share stories late into the night and be generous towards each other. Thank you again for another chance to partner with Camp Chestermere.

"Kawa" - Varisty Bible Church's Cabin
"Kawa" and "Thorburn" are the names that honour the 2 contractors and coordinators of the project Cabin 5 and 6. Both Calvin Kawa and Claudette Reddick put a lot of time and energy into this project. They worked hard at organizing, gathering people, supplies and making sure things were there when needed. It was a job well done!!! So "Kawa" is Calvin's last name and Thorburn is the name of the street that Claudette grew up on in Nova Scotia.

"The Comfort Cabin" - The Comfort Family's Cabin
In January, Don Comfort, one of Camp’s long-standing supporters, went home to be with the Lord. Serving as chairman of the board for 25 years, Don championed and promoted Camp Chestermere far beyond his time as chairman. Don understood the great value of the camping experience from his own life and camping (especially Camp Chestermere) was dear to his heart all his life. As a member of Bethel Baptist Church (Camp’s sponsoring church), Don was aware of Camp Chestermere in its early days as a converted sea cadet camp. But his real involvement began in the late ’60’s, when a great friend of his, Paul Furseth, became Camp’s director, and Don’s eldest son, Gradyn, went to camp as a camper. Paul (aka “Stretch”) convinced Don and his wife Doris to become cabin leaders, “Cactus” (Don) and “Prickles” (Doris). For many of the following summers, Cactus made sure that his cabin won the coveted prize of Cleanest Cabin! Numerous campers learned to waterski for the first time behind Don’s boat, the Comfy, hearing emphatic instructions from the boat (“Keep your arms straight! Bend your KNEES! Let the boat pull you up!”). Don became Camp’s chairman of the board, as well as its very enthusiastic fundraiser, promoter, and benefactor. His enthusiasm and support for Camp Chestermere has remained strong over the years, and it was his great honour to have one of Camp’s new cabins named after him.

"The Bunn House" - The Bunn's Family Cabin
The Bunn House - The Bunn family started their association with Camp Chestermere back in the early days of the camp’s creation, through Bethel Baptist Church. Many of the youth from Bethel were involved and spent much of their time serving the camp. This included Edmund Bunn, as a young adult, then with his wife, Marilyn. They had four children, Bill, Lynn, David and Judith, who all grew up out at camp each summer and it is continuing to this day with many of their grandchildren. The Bunn families have been involved as campers, leaders, cooks, boat drivers, mural painters, renovators, board members and many other roles. Camp Chestermere holds a special place in the Bunn family’s heart and will hopefully continue for many generations to come.
