In partnership with Trellis, the Multicultural Youth Society of Chestermere and the Chestermere Lions Club, Camp Chestermere will be hosting the Aahkoomoohpii Memorial Ceremony.
The Aahkoomoohpii (Blackfoot for "Gathering") Memorial Ceremony at Camp Chestermere will be held on Friday, June 11 between 3PM and 6PM. We ask that attendees arrive between 3PM-4PM to check-in and be COVID screened. At this point, Camp Chestermere will be serving a picnic-styled lunch - please feel free to bring blankets, lawn chairs, etc. as seating will not be provided. During this time we will encourage attendees to leave items such as teddy bears, a pair of children's shoes or another item of meaning at the memorial. Camp Chestermere will have supplies available if you wish to write and leave a message.
From 4PM onwards, the ceremony will begin and will include the following:
Smudge Ceremony | Lanterns | Drummers | Testimonials | Knowledge Teaching | Healing Prayer | Taking down of Memorial
Please note that, in accordance with COVID guidelines, we will be welcoming the first 100 people registrants. All COVID guidelines will be followed, including the enforcement of masks and social distancing.
If you have any further questions regarding the ceremony, please contact our camp office.
