About the CLTD Program

CLTD is Camp Chestermere's Youth Leadership Training and Discipleship Program directed at youth who are excited to grow in their faith and finished at least grade 8.  It is a three-year program that is designed to run sessions of two weeks each during the summer and weekend retreats during the school year.

This program is the result of a passion to come alongside youth, challenging them to go deeper in their journey with Jesus Christ and to develop them as strong and confident leaders. In order to attain this, sessions are taught that offer an understanding of Christianity, the Bible and Spiritual Disciplines as well as different sessions in leadership and basic life skill such as coaching and modern etiquette.

Youth enrolled in the program are expected to participate in serving the camp through chores such as dishes, serving and setting up for meals, and raking seaweed. These chores help to teach the CLTDs about humble Christian service, the importance of working as a team, and how service and maintenence around camp is a responsibility shared by all.

It's a year round program!
Our commitment to the growth and development of our CLTDs goes beyond the summer and continues throughout the school-year with weekend sessions at camp running the last weekend of October, November, January, and February (these retreats coincide with our winter weekend camps).  Through these retreats we continue to build on the teaching that the participants learned in the summer; CLTDs will continue to serve the camp, build healthy relationships between participants and grow closer to God. We understand the demands on the busy lives of young people these days and attending these weekends allows them to take a deep breath and find restoration, encouragement and support that carries into their every day lives. (we ask that every attempt be made for CLTDs to attend as many weekends as possible).

Program Breakdown

Sojourn - Year One

  • Introduction to the Christian faith and Discipleship journey
  • Appropriate for any faith level from interested non-believer to church raised youth
  • Sessions designed to offer insight to the Christian faith, answer questions and spark discussion on such topics as: who is God? motivation, sin, repentance, and salvation.
  • Team-building through work around camp, nightly devotional times and group activities.
  • Plenty of fun activities to grow as a group, as young adults, and as followers of Christ.

Mentorship - Year Two*

  • Designed to build on the blocks put in place during Sojourn
  • Service opportunities on and off-site
  • Deeper look into spiritual disciplines: prayer, service, evangelism, personal and group devotions
  • DVDs and session teaching on reaching out to the world around us, personal growth and continued exploration and comprehension of scripture
*Please note that we rarely accept new applicants into the Mentorship program without first taking Sojourn.  This is because the group is already established through walking together for the first year and it can be difficult to introduce new members.

Apprenticeship - Year Three**

  • Focuses on developing leadership skills that can be useful in both a camp setting as well as in everyday life
  • Sessions designed to prepare for leadership at camp and beyond including coaching, good vs. not-so-good leaders, personal care, and continued theological issues
  • The chance to make a difference in the lives of peers and campers.
  • Participation in staff training

**Please note that we will take people into this program who haven't participated in the first two years of the CLTD Program but who are wanting to work at camp as a cabin leader for the summer months.   We strongly encourage those Junior Leaders to participate in the Apprenticeship Program (ages 15-17) before embarking as a Junior Cabin Leader.

Note: ALL 3 years of CLTD include participation in camp-wide chores (raking seaweed, dishes, serving etc)
