Building Tomorrow's Memories Today
On Saturday, November 13, Mayor Patricia Matthews joined Allan Schaber of the Chestermere Army Cadets, and Amy Cote, former camper & current staff member of Camp Chestermere, in a ground breaking ceremony to mark the commencement of construction on our new 1.7 million dollar multi-purpose facility.
We are pleased to announce to you a facility expansion plan that addresses the emerging needs of our camp and positions us for growth in the years to come. These expanded facilities will be available for use by both camp and off season Guest Group users including the Cadets, Guides & Scouts and will also address the 3 key areas identified as Camp Chestermere's priorities for growth; Day Camp rooms, dining hall and kitchen.
1. Kitchen expansion & upgrading
An updated and expanded kitchen (ours dates back to the seventies) will assure maximum energy efficiency, allow for us to meet all required health code parameters and give our kitchen staff more space to function when cooking for all our campers and staff.
2. Dining facility expansion
With a maximum capacity of 150, our dining area is cramped during mealtimes when we try to squeeze in approximately 120 campers, plus cabin leaders, activity leaders, volunteers and additional staff. Expanded facilities would allow us to fully accommodate all patrons, as well as provide more space for more efficient and safe mealtimes.
3. The creation of Day Camp & Guest Groups meeting spaces
Each year, the rental of 2-3 Atco trailers for use by Day Camp costs the camp around $15,000. New facilities will provide a permanent place for Day Camp programs to run (eliminating trailer rental costs), as well as Staff meeting places, extra office space, and areas for guest groups who rent the facilities during the Fall and Winter seasons.
Construction & design costs have been estimated at $1.7 million with construction to begin November 2010.
